Business bodies have hailed the government’s move to roll back dual pricing on diesel. The government, about two weeks ago, had hiked diesel price by 25 percent for bulk purchasers, including industries, hotels and diplomatic missions in a bid to minimise Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC)’s losses.
Since then, the private sector had been condemning the government, saying that such an act could encourage black-marketing and have a negative impact on the normal supply chain.
In a press release issued on Wednesday, the Federation of Nepalese Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FNCCI) said the rollback of diesel price hike would give a sense of relief to the entire industrial sector. “This will also help curb black marketing,” read the statement.
In a separate statement, the Confederation of Nepalese Industries (CNI) said the government’s decision to scrap dual pricing on the fuel has suggested its positive attitude towards the industrial sector.
“The introduction of dual pricing on diesel had hit the industrial sector already reeling under several problems,” read the CNI statement. “The latest government move will help increase industries’ productivity.” Following a harsh criticism, especially from the private sector, the government decided to scrap the dual pricing on diesel on Tuesday, with effect from Wednesday. |
