With Pokhara being a hot favourite to celebrate New Year’s Day, hotels in the lake city are going the extra mile to make the departure of the year 2011 a memorable one. Each year, Pokhara welcomes the New Year in a grand style. And this year will be no different. Almost all the hotels from five-star properties to non-star hotels are readying themselves for a grand New Year’s Eve.
For Pokhara, the New Year is not just a mere date but a festival. The Hotel Barahi, Temple Tree Resort, Shangri-La Village and Fishtail are organising gala dinners and special musical programmes with door prizes and lucky draws. The prizes in the lucky draws include Kathmandu-Pokhara air tickets and lunch and dinner at hotels in Pokhara, Chitwan and Nagarkot. Local and national singers have been invited to perform at these special programmes where tickets cost in the range of Rs 2,000 to Rs 2,500 per person.
The Pokhara Grande, one of two five-star hotels in Pokhara, has readied a special musical programme for Dec 31. It is presenting a typical Nepali cultural programme for its domestic and international tourists.
“We are preparing to present a programme that will give a glimpse of Nepali culture to our international guests,” said Tulsi Lamichhane, food and beverage manager at the Pokhara Grande. “The whole idea is to make the New Year eventful.”
The Hotel Barahi will have a DJ session, live concert and comedy show along with musical programmes. According to sales manager Buddiman Sharma, Madavi Tripathi and Aashusen Lama will be doing a special presentation at the Barahi. Temple Tree Resort that came into operation a few months ago is presenting Nepali Tara Ritu Lama at a special programme. According to Padam Neupane, restaurant manager at the Shangri-La Village, the hotel has planned a DJ session and Nepali musical programme for New Year’s Eve. The Fishtail Lodge will have a local live band along with DJs for its guests on December 31.
Hoteliers say that with New Year’s Day evolving as a festival in Pokhara, they are organising these special programmes to celebrate it. “The idea of celebrating the New Year and organising New Year’s Eve was started with the aim of making the tourists in Pokhara feel special,” said Biplov Poudel, chairman of the Paschimanchal Hotel Association.
International and domestic tourists in Pokhara will see grand fireworks on December 31. “We’re organising a fireworks display to celebrate the New Year,” said Balaram Pahari, chairman of the Restaurant and Bar Association (Reban) Pokhara. |
